Are you ready to race other travelers to the runway?
Athletes arriving at Glasgow Airport for this Friday and Saturday’s Glasgow Grand Prix stepped off their flights only to find themselves already on the track. British Athletics @BritAthletics tweeted this photo of the six-lane red carpet, welcoming athletes like A-list stars before the Academy Awards.
Normally the meet is held in London. However, due to the Olympic Stadium’s not-in-use status, the Grand Prix will be hosted in Glasgow’s Hampden Park. Two weeks later the Commonwealth Games will take place at the same stadium.
Several star runners will be competing in the meet, including Kenyan 800-meter Olympic champion and world record-holder David Rudisha. Mo Farah had also planned to compete in the two-mile event, but withdrew due to stomach pains that required a brief hospitalization in the U.S. last week.
As an afterthought, this “carpet” could be utilized as a makeshift warm-up track for runners during flight delays. Or travelers could race each other to see who catches their flight first!
