It’s Olympic season again with the Winter Olympics currently taking place in Sochi, Russia. To remind us of the Olympic spirit, we look back upon Great Britain’s 400m runner, Derek Redmond, and his memorable race at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games. Although, this is neither a comeback nor victory story, Derek Redmond deserves a medal for his resilience. Halfway through the race, his hamstring snaps. However, instead of bowing out of the race, he pulls himself up and continues to hobble towards the finish line. Soon after, Redmond’s father joins him on the track and from there it’s a sob storm of emotions. The next time you feel like giving up, remember Redmond’s courage to keep yourself going.
